Library Loot (29 August 2012)

Library Loot is a weekly event co-hosted by Claire from The Captive Reader and Marg from The Adventures of an Intrepid Reader that encourages bloggers to share the books they’ve checked out from the library.

Wee reader was in a wave-y mood today, pretty much waving at anyone who smiled at him. This is very unlike him as he’s the cautious, hand back and check out the surroundings before venturing further type, the stare at the stranger till they blink first type. So I guess it shows how comfortable he is at the library now!

The Shadow Speaker – Nnedi Okorafor

Driven by vengeance. Destined for peace. Niger, West Africa, 2070: After fifteen-year old Ejii witnesses her father’s beheading, her world shatters. In an era of mind-blowing technology and seductive magic, Ejii embarks on a mystical journey to track down her father’s killer. With a newfound friend by her side, Ejii comes face to face with an earth turned inside out–and with her own magical powers. But Ejii soon discovers that her travels across the sands of the Sahara have a greater purpose. Her people need to be protected from a force seeking to annihilate them. And Ejii may be just the hero to do it. This futuristic, fantastical adventure heralds a bright new talent on the YA fantasy scene.

What did you get from the library this week?

  1. It’s been a crazy busy week for me so I haven’t gotten my loot posted. I have a couple of books for the Foodies Read 2 Challenge.
    Enjoy your loot.

  2. I’m pleased to see that you have a copy of Shadow Speaker – it is one of the strangest books I’ve ever read – I look forward to seeing what you make of it.

  3. Just one book for you? Aren’t you tempted to borrow heaps of books? 🙂 I’ve got Nnedi Okorafor’s Who Fears Death? on my to-read list, and I didn’t now that she had written more books. Is The Shadow Speaker the first you’ll read by her? Any reason why this one spoke out to you?

Seems that Wee reader is going to have a lot of nice pictures to look at!

    1. I would’ve liked more than one book but wee reader wasn’t being too cooperative!! It was nearing his naptime anyway so I can’t blame him (unfortunately my library doesn’t open in the mornings!).

I wasn’t sure why I picked up The Shadow Speaker. Okorafor has been on my TBR list for a while too and I just grabbed the first book I saw actually!
