It’s Monday! What are you reading?

“It’s Monday! What are you reading?” is a weekly event hosted by Sheila at Bookjourney to share with others what we’ve read the past week and planning to read next

First time joining in this meme!
I’ve finally been inching towards getting over this nasty head cold (being pregnant always makes colds seem to last forever!), tissues still have to be carried around wherever I go but at least the nights have been more sleep-filled! Of course just as I’m starting to feel better, the weather is turning crummy again with temps dropping and rain expected (it was almost shorts-and-tshirt weather over the weekend!). Oh well, good weather for reading I suppose, that is, if wee reader will let me!

Currently reading:

The best exotic Marigold Hotel – Deborah Moggach
Unexpectedly different from the movie
Gold Boy, Emerald Girl – Li Yiyun
Am savouring each short story. Really enjoying this one.
Of Love and Shadows – Isabel Allende
A slightly slow read that I had to renew

Currently listening:

Beverly Craven! How 1990s!

Last week I read:

Sky Burial – Xinran
(review to come)
The princess bride – William Goldman
What fun this was! Now I have to go rewatch the movie as it’s been ages and ages and all I can remember is them climbing the cliffs!
Zeina – Nawal El Saadawi
I really struggled with this difficult read. Now I have to go struggle to squeeze out a review…
Stories: All-New Tales – Neil Gaiman (ed)
Finally! I started this collection of short stories sometime late last year and it’s been sitting on my nightstand for months!
The Stonekeeper’s Curse (Amulet #2) – Kazu Kibuishi
Plenty of fun.

Last week I reviewed:

Red Scarf Girl – Jiang Ji-li (Global Women of Colour Challenge (challenge page))
The House I Loved – Tatiana de Rosnay (Postal Reading Challenge (sign-up page))
Malinche – Laura Esquivel (Global Women of Colour Challenge (challenge page))

  1. I hope you feel 100% better soon. Head colds are awful. Everything on your reading list for this week makes me want to add it to my reading list. Happy reading.

    1. Thanks for the welcome, Jennifer! My son’s way too young for the book (he’s nearly two) but I hope it’ll be something he reads in the future!

  2. Cold and pregnancy don’t sound like a good combination 😦 Do take it easy and get enough rest, especially now the weather’s taking a bad turn again. Gold Boy, Emerald Girl is still staring at me from my bookcase, and Laura Esquivel’s book just got me wondering how many other wonderful novels she wrote besides Like Water for Chocolate!
