“It’s Monday! What are you reading?” is a weekly event hosted by Sheila at Bookjourney to share with others what we’ve read the past week and planning to read next.
We celebrated wee-er reader’s first month on Sunday, inviting friends over for a little lunch party. Luckily the sun broke through the clouds just in time for us to be able to sit in the backyard (it was still a little windy though!). The star of the day slept through most of the event but everyone had a swell time. There was plenty of food like fried rice, samosas, tuna potato patties and of course dessert like almond jelly with longan, pulut hitam (a hot porridge-like dessert made with black glutinous rice and gula melaka or palm sugar) and chocolate cake. The older kids got to run around in the scanty sunshine. And we received such lovely presents for the little one. Hope your weekend was a good one too!
Currently…
Reading:
Black Boy – Richard Wright
Among Others – Jo Walton
Love that there are so many many books mentioned to add to my list!
Listening:
TLC and All Saints on Spotify
Watching:
The Good Wife Season 2 (love Archie Panjabi and Alan Cumming!)
Hemlock Grove – this original Netflix series is a little bizarre and has the most disturbing werewolf-metamorphosis scene ever, but I’m wondering where it’s going so I’m still watching!
Looking forward to…
Hmm not sure. I’m still taking each day as it comes and just being grateful for extra-long breaks between feedings.
Ok maybe I am looking forward to having a piece of leftover chocolate cake later!
Read last week:
Away – Amy Bloom (meh)
The space between us – Thrity Umrigar (Hopefully I’ll be able to put together a post on this book, but for now I’ll just say that I loved it!)
What are you reading this week?
Adorable picture of wee-er reader! Also, really glad to hear you’re enjoying “The Good Wife”, which is one of my favourite shows.

Happy one month to the little one…and to you! You are the one doing all the hard work, right? 🙂
I read and enjoyed Umrigar’s book The World We Found, so I will look for your thoughts on The Space Between Us.

The gula melaka and glutinous rice… yummy! Nothing like home baked food. Your little wee one is so adorable.

And there were plenty of leftovers so we enjoyed the pulut hitam over the next few days. Yum. It was so easy in the slow cooker I’m going to make it more often

Gosh, I am so homesick now…. I wish you could ship over the pulut hitam to the UK! lol 😀

Are you not able to find black glutinous rice where you live?

I probably can. Perhaps I haven’t tried hard enough. 😦

I probably then shouldn’t put up pictures of what my mum made for dessert yesterday – sago gula melaka
