It’s Monday and I’m reading Siege and Storm

itsmonday“It’s Monday! What are you reading?” is a weekly event hosted by Sheila at Bookjourney to share with others what we’ve read the past week and planning to read next.

It’s Sunday morning 945am and I’m stuffed. We went out for an early breakfast and had pancakes, bacon, corned beef, hash browns, eggs and fruit! The 15-month-old continues to surprise us all by having more than half a pancake, corned beef and potatoes, then toast, then more pancake and fruits! The question is where does it all go because he is a skinny little fellow and at only the 10th percentile in weight!

White Bone – Barbara Gowdy

Yes, still. It’s taking me a while to digest this book.

Zone One – Colson Whitehead

I was kind of expecting this zombie aftermath novel to be a bit more exciting than it is. It’s a far different approach to the zombie scene, and while Whitehead’s prose is undeniably brilliant, I feel so very distant from the characters, disengaged.

Storm and Siege (The Grish #2) – Leigh Bardugo

I was a bit on the fence about the first book but was interested enough to borrow the second. So far not too bad.

Nothing at the moment. I’m still full from breakfast!

The Great British Bake Off! The biscuits episode was fantastic!

Last week

I read:

The Story HourThe Story Hour – Thrity Umrigar

For an upcoming book tour

The Vacationers – Emma Straub

A little bit less ‘beach read’ (i.e. light and fluffy) than I expected it to be. Sure there is sun, sand and swimming pool, but there is plenty of emotional baggage, dysfunctional families, and characters to not like very much.

What are you reading this week?

  1. Ho ho, wasn’t the biscuits episode great? What about the man who put no flavourings in his biscuits at all? Mad. The skill that went into those biscuit dioramas was amazing.
