Happy Readathon Day everyone!
I’m going to plonking all my Readathon updates right here on this post, hopefully every few hours or so – so please check back later for more! I’ll also be on Instagram in case you are too. Oh and this year is the first time I’m cheering! I’ll be doing that on Instagram.
Hour 16 update
Phew. The kids are finally in bed – it’s just after 8pm here. I haven’t managed to do much reading today. A comic (Bitch Planet Vol 1), a YA book (Kira-kira) and am halfway through another comic (The Collector). But hopefully now I can get more reading done. I have been doing a bit of cheering here and there on Instagram. Hopefully I can do another round later but I would really like to read now that things are quieter.
Hour 10 update
So I’ve been reading picture books to the kids. There’s been a lot of Thomas stories, some Blues Clues, a lovely little book Bee-Bim-Bop! that I just bought this morning at the library book sale (see Hour 7 update).
But have also managed to make my way through half of Kira-kira. Hooray!
Hour 7 update
So I haven’t been reading anything for the last two hours!!! Instead I was at the library book sale buying some books!
Then it was lunch at our favourite Vietnamese restaurant.
But now we are back home and I’m about to start on my second book! Kira-kira by Cynthia Kadohata.
Hour 1
Mini challenge by Unabridged Chick
Dig through your shelves and share with us a book cover you’d like to escape into! Doesn’t matter if the subject, plot, or genre isn’t typically your thing; in this case, we’re totally judging the book by its cover!
Leave a link to your Cover Escape (posted to your blog, Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram) so we can all oooh-and-aaah over your selection.
This is my pick. A book cover of high-rise flats probably isn’t most people’s idea of “escape” but it makes me think of home, of Singapore, where this book is set, and which is indeed full of high-rise apartment buildings like these. I haven’t been back to Singapore for two years so I’m looking forward to our trip there soon!
Currently reading: Bitch Planet!
Eating and drinking: smoked salmon and cream cheese on homemade baguette. The star-sprinkled butter cake my son and I made yesterday. And tea lots of tea.
Hour 0 – Opening Meme
I hope you have a great day of reading! I am unofficially cheering from the sidelines.

Good morning and happy readathon! I hope you enjoy cheering – last year was my first and I really loved it. Also – San Francisco is my fave! I was there just the week before last on vacation 🙂

Your boys look so sweet. I bet they don’t argue much. Or maybe they do!
I didn’t know there were pumpkin waffles. I think that sounds good. I am not so much a fan of pumpkin pie – a few mouthfuls are delicious but after that it gets a bit heavy, and a bit much pumpkin. Like one of the Peter Carey books where one of the characters complains about squashes being depressing after a whole season of them, because they are so wet.

Haha they do sometimes. The younger one is very fierce and likes to protect his stuff.
I know what you mean about pumpkin pie. My mum was the one who wanted the pumpkin cheesecake and I was apprehensive but it’s not bad! We have yet to try the waffles though.

Well, it’s 21:30 here in Texas, so perhaps your Wee ones will be heading to bed fairly soon. It’s cool that they are helping you participate by letting you read to them! {grin} Hope your Read-a-Thon continues to go well. Nine and a half more hours!

*fist bumps fellow cheerleader* So how do you like cheering? I was nervous the first time and worried about having a great rhyme ready, and now that I’ve done it a few times, I realize that just making engaged comments on everyone’s posts is a lot less stressful and more fun, at least for me! Your lunch looked very yummy, though I’ve never tried Vietnamese yet, I’ve had Thai, so I’m guessing it may be similar? And that’s hilarious about ending up at a book sale instead, of course you had to! 😀 I hope you’re having a great time, and I’m so glad you got to join us today!
