Putting up the Christmas tree

We were in Singapore for three weeks in November and Singapore’s main shopping area known as Orchard Road is always decked out for Christmas. So that already got us in a Christmassy mood last month. When we got back, the kids bugged us to put up the tree. And so we did. We have an artificial tree. In Singapore – at least when I was a kid in the 80s – real Christmas trees weren’t a thing. These days you can get them in Singapore but I’m guessing at quite a price. So I grew up celebrating with artificial Christmas trees. It’s convenient!

Making ornaments

Both kids (2 and 4) are old enough to do some crafty things this year. Unfortunately I’m not very crafty myself so I made a trip to Michael’s to pick up Christmas craft kits which were at half price! C stuck stickers on a snowman and F put together snowflakes. I put their names and the year on the back and hope to do this each Christmas (until they’re not interested anymore).

Making cookies

I have fond memories of making gingerbread men with my mum and I enjoy baking with F who helps me roll out dough, cut out the cookies and throw sprinkles on. We made sugar cookies for their preschool teachers as well as next-door neighbour and friends. And the little bits of leftover dough gets turned into their initials!

Christmas cards

Because we are far away from our families and friends in Singapore, we try to send out Christmas cards to them. Hopefully they get there in time! This year I found some gorgeous San Francisco cards at the MoMa store at the airport.

We also listen to Christmas music on Spotify and something new this year – play with Christmas Lego!

Are you all ready for Christmas?
