My mum arrived from Singapore on Friday for a visit! Hooray! She’s staying with us for a month before she flies off back home for Chinese New Year.

The 4yo had his first tennis lesson and thankfully Thursday was the first day of the week without rain!

Reading:
City on Fire – Garth Risk Hallberg
OK I have no idea whether I can finish this before the e-book expires. I am trying and I am intrigued enough to continue with this very very long book.
Watching:
I’m still making my way through The Americans, but have also watched the first episode of The Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce, which stars Lisa Cuddy Edelstein of House MD, one of my all-time favourite tv series.
Eating:
The husband asked his colleague to pick up some shortbread cookies when she was vacationing in Hawaii, and she bought these Big Island Candies macadamia nut cookies for us. Yum!
Drinking:
Earl Grey tea.
Cooking:
I’m thinking of cooking some oyakodon (or chicken and egg rice bowl) and this recipe from Two Red Bowls sounds doable
And maybe some slow-cooked Boeuf Bourguignon. I recently bought a new crockpot to replace my old one so have been wanting to test it out!
Browsing:
Why the British tell better children’s stories (The Atlantic)
Also, I want to read ALL THE BOOKS – The Millions’ most anticipated releases of 2016. But wait! First I have to read all the buzzed about books from 2015?! So that I can follow along with the Tournament of Books! Not to mention all those books from 2014 that I never read…
So I made a Root Beer Bundt (recipe link here – please note that I cut the sugar in both the cake batter and the icing and it was still awesome) the other day, why not make a Coca-cola chocolate slice!!?!

Last week:
I read:
Delicious Foods – James Hannaham
Thoughts on the book later this week I hope!
D.A. – Connie Willis

A Little Life – read it! read it!
What are you reading this week?
Hooray for your mom visiting! Even as grownups, it’s nice to spend time with our parents. 🙂
Have a great week and I hope you make good progress on your giant book!

Those scrambled eggs look perfect. Takes concentration to make them – a few seconds over and they turn disappointingly dry. Hope 4yo enjoyed his tennis – always a good thing to encourage exercise.

CoF took me six weeks. I took a couple of break though. Got bogged down a bit.

Oh my god – I wish I could have all the time I spent reading City on Fire back. I guess I also just revealed how I ended up feeling about it – ha!
Your eggs/salmon/bread breakfast looks delicious! I’m a huge smoked salmon fan!

I’m still reading City on Fire, too. It’s really good so far, but since we’re traveling I’m not making as much progress as I’d like. My ebook loan has expired, but my kindle is on “airplane mode” so I can keep it.
