It’s Monday and I’m reading The Raven King (whee!!)

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week. This meme started with J Kaye’s Blog   and then was taken up by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at the Book Date

Some weekends are full of doings and goings but this one was a hangout at home one. The 3yo fell sick on Friday. Nothing that warranted a visit to the doctor but over-the-counter meds helped. He was very sleepy and clingy so that meant a lot of napping (more like dozing off and waking and dozing again). And couch time in front of the TV. He asked to watch Polar Express, asking if it’s ok that it’s not Christmas. And then asking to watch it at Christmas.

Also it was Dragonboat or Dumpling Festival and the kids made paper dumplings at school. You can find dumplings at the Asian supermarkets here but they are different from the ones in Singapore so we don’t eat these. Will definitely be eating lots of dumplings (which we call bah zhang) in Singapore.

So the weekend was about a lot of takeout meals. Although I did make waffles on Saturday morning, which made the 5yo happy.

And in other news, I decided to go ahead and buy myself a new domain! Now is all mine (at least for the year). I find it a little bit odd saying ‘seeya’ to my old username of ‘olduvai’. It is a username that I first started using, well now that I think of it, nearly 18 years ago (how is that even possible?) when the Internet was becoming a thing and people were chatting in chatrooms and all that nonsense. Yes kids, I once lived in a time WHEN THE INTERNET DID NOT EXIST. I started a very personal blog more than ten years ago then outgrew that, moved to WordPress, but I still wanted to remain anonymous. I think a large part of that was because for a few years I worked in Singapore’s largest newspaper company and I wanted to be able to write about things without causing too much trouble for myself. Not that I wrote anything slanderous or scandalous. It’s just that I was probably far too cautious than I ever needed to be. So anyway, I’ve forked over some money, bought a domain name, mapped my new domain over at WordPress and it feels kinda refreshing to have this new name. If you follow me on Instagram and Twitter, you’ve probably noticed that I already changed my usernames on social media. And it was just time that this old blog got in order. Thanks for sticking around and I hope you continue to do so!

The Raven King – Maggie Stiefvater

The Time In Between – Maria Duenas

I’m taking this slowly, as I guess I do with my own books, since there is no due date on them!

Now You See Me, the 2013 film. Now You See Me 2 is out in theaters now although that is a ridiculous title and I keep thinking it is called Four Horsemen (that’s what the magicians call themselves). Quite entertaining, although the ending was a bit much. I am not sure if I will watch the second one, but they did swap Isla Fisher for Lizzy Caplan so maybe! I have been a bit of a fan of Caplan’s since Mean Girls.

I just finished listening to Mindy Kaling’s Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? which was quite delightful.

Well nothing at the moment. I am writing this on Sunday night. We had dinner (takeout of course) from The Kebab Shop. I love their wraps and the macaroni salad. We got the kids some rice and beef kofta and falefels but they decided that they would rather eat my lamb/beef wrap instead! I am so putting spicy hummus in my wrap next time…

I’m taking the kids to a new swim class for the next four weeks. It’s every Monday to Thursday. The 5yo has been swimming for the past few months but it’s the 3yo’s first class. So my plan for tomorrow is to just reheat some bolognese I had made and frozen a couple of weeks ago. And just cook spaghetti to go with it.

  1. Congrats on the new domain! Very exciting.

I was so excited about Now You See Me when I first saw the trailer for it, and then I think it got bad reviews, and I never ended up watching it. Peer pressured out of it! But I’ve heard a few people say good things about it lately, so I think I will try and catch it before the sequel comes out. I love Lizzie Caplan a lot too — have you seen Party Down? She’s in it with Adam Scott, and it’s really funny (but dark).

  2. Aw, poor guy. Hope he’s feeling better.

I love the new domain name. I’m excited to move back to WordPress(.com!) for my blog. I’m such a dork.
