It’s Monday and the kids are going back to school (hooray!)

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week. This meme started with J Kaye’s Blog   and then was taken up by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at the Book Date

It was a bit of a strange week. My in-laws were supposed to fly back to Singapore in the early hours of January 1. But then my father-in-law developed some kind of stomach bug and was sick the whole of December 31 and decided that he couldn’t make it on the plane. The next available seats were late night January 6 (the flight, via Taiwan, always leaves around midnight) and so they had to stay on for an extra few days. It was nice to have them around, especially since the kids were still off from school the whole week. It was also raining a lot so we stayed close to home. There was a lot of movie watching – Totoro, Ponyo are their favourites. Some craft, play dough, puzzles, train tracks, dance parties, indoor tag and what not. Thursday and Friday were beautifully clear days but it was still chilly so we hung out at the playground in our estate, the backyard, and ran errands like Costco and grocery shopping.

  1. OMG – those nutella Cronuts look insanely good!

And I’ve dabbling with Lab Girl right now…trying to decide if I’m interested enough to continue reading or not.

    1. At first I wasn’t sure if I would like the author’s reading of the audiobook but in the end I really am. She brings so much passion to her work and shows it in the way she reads.

  2. hm, unless there is a time I am not thinking of at the moment, I think we only went to the movies once… To see Star Wars. There is a good chance I will only make it to the movies once this year as well, to finally see Rogue One. lol

  3. Did you like Rogue One? I didn’t love it the way I loved The Force Awakens, but it was really terrific to see a team that looked like that going on missions. I just wish the, um, ending had worked out differently. I wanted more missions for that team.

(Meanwhile I have been reading lots of “Everybody lives” Rogue One fanfic. If that is a thing you ever do, I am recommending this Bodhi-centric fic to everybody: http://archiveofourown.org/works/9248573)

    1. Ok I still haven’ watched The Force Awakens…. I know I know… but sometimes with two little kids it’s hard to get out to the cinema. But yes, while I really liked Rogue One (especially the diversity!) I hated that ending.

    1. I wasn’t sure at first but her voice (and especially when she’s feeling all the feels when reading) really grew on me. I have to listen to it at 1.25 speed though, as it was just a little bit too slow!

  4. The texture of that cronut looks truly delectable. Was there even a hint of hazelnut in there? I’ve recently learned how to make my own hazelnut/chocolate “butter”, which has been devastating good (but costly, but also dairy-free and easy).

Have you watched “Mad Men” before? I finally got to an episode of GG where Rory reads, or at least she HAD read because she recommended Jane Austen to Dean. Anyway, I totally get why Lane’s character would have mattered more than Rory’s bookishness, but I was still happy to see a book show up. Heh.

    1. Ooh homemade hazelnut butter sounds amazing!
Sadly, I think the only Nutella was what was drizzled on top. I mean, I know what Nutella tastes like and what was inside was not Nutella!

Yes, I have seen Mad Men before. But I hadn’t watched the final season, and I figured, since it’s been a while and I hadn’t a clue what the previous season is about anymore, might as well watch it from the beginning!

GG – You can see what books she reads via this link which categorizes it by season http://www.blackwhitereadbooks.com/the-official-list

  5. My teen just found out about the K-Pop The Short Story book and she already order it on her Amazon app. Although it’s about Korean culture, specifically a young Korean American man, I’m hoping the content isn’t too mature because anyone who knows k-pop or the music industry in general, many of the topics can be quite…sexual. If not colorful even. So yes it’s time for them to get back to school, and its time for them to get back into finding books to read both in their library and on Amazon. *sigh*

  6. Hooray! Cute model there.

Also, I didn’t see the book cover in the picture with the waffles at first. Those waffles are mighty distracting hahahaha.
