Hi, guess it’s Monday again, huh.
We went for more Singapore/Malaysia food on Saturday, driving up to Pleasanton just for this takeout.
We had nasi lemak, mee siam goreng, and two types of kueh (kueh Talam with red bean and Pulut Wajik, which is glutinous rice cooked with coconut milk and gula melaka).
Saturday night saw an unusual occurrence – lightning and thunder! We have never seen so much lightning in all our ten years in California. Thunderstorms are a regular event in Singapore but not in CA. The kids were quite excited about it.
It set off quite a few fires unfortunately and a few traffic lights in our area were out too.
And there was rain. Actual rain in August!
Of course after that, it was back to the heatwave that we’ve been having since Friday – it’s hotter than in Singapore!
The boys had a piano recital on Sunday – over Zoom that is. And it went well
Since it was such a hot weekend, we had sushi for Sunday dinner.

We used to eat Laughing Cow. I didn’t know you had it in the US. Now we live above the smoking break area of a pizza restaurant, there is a chef with a very distinctive jolly laugh and we call him the Laughing Chef. He’s been there for years, which is unusual in the restaurant trade.

Yup it’s found here. I actually bought it at Costco where they sell it in a four pack.

Wow, I WISH thunder and lightning were unusual here – this summer, they’ve been a daily occurrence! We lost power for a week recently after 2 big storms in a row.
On the Come Up was great – I also listened to it on audio – I think that’s the best way to read it, with the rap battles. My son and I are on season one of The Umbrella Academy and enjoying it.
Hope you have a good week & enjoy your books!

The rap battles are great to listen to!
Yes it was really weird for me to come to CA and realize that I would miss the rain and the frequent thunder and lightning of Singapore.

Whew, I am sorry that y’all are having a heat wave — do you have AC to keep your lives bearable? I know a lot of my friends have been having heat waves in their area and don’t have AC and have really been suffering, so hopefully that’s not y’all’s situation!
