Hello, it’s Monday again. And good grief, we are almost into May. (I don’t actually say “good grief” but I don’t want to use swear words on this blog, so feel free to replace “good grief” with your favourite swear word.)
So last weekend, my younger son turned 8! We had ramen and cake and tennis with friends. And presents and Skype sessions with grandparents.
Currently…
Reading: Anna K by Jenny Lee
Watching: Vincenzo.
Listening: Still haven’t landed on a new audiobook yet… any suggestions?
Eating and drinking: Cake!
Cooking: Hmmm I have a cabbage to cook up. Maybe I’ll make some soup with fish balls and cabbage. And then another day, I’ll stirfry the cabbage and serve that along some claypot rice.
Last week:
I read:
Sharks in the Time of Saviors – Kawai Strong Washburn
A Pho Love Story – Loan Le
I posted:
Colorful Book Covers #TopTenTuesday
That cake looks awesome!

I have been watching YouTubes to improve my Cantonese and I found out this week that what I’d always thought was squid=mut yu=”ink fish” is a cuttlefish and a squid is a “yau yu” (whatever a yau is).
Ironically my mum is the worst person in the world for overcooking squid. My heart used to sink when I found out we were having squid for dinner, as it promised what seemed like hours and hours of chewing.

Ok I think I may have confused squid with cuttlefish. I’ll have to look it up!
I’ve never cooked it myself. I think the trick is to either cook it really long or really quickly? But somehow I’ve found that when it’s done in Asian style eateries, they’re much more tender than the Italian style calamari.

Yum – your food pics always look so good! Love your gorgeous cake 🙂
We have a lot of cabbage to use up, too – we’ve been getting a lot of it from our CSA lately. I normally think of cabbage as a more wintry food (soups, etc) so will have to get creative!
Here’s my Best of 2020 post, with a list for my Top 10 Audiobooks from last year – maybe you’ll find something to your taste there 🙂
Enjoy your books this week!

Thank you! Hope you found a good cabbage recipe. How about slaw? If I do have the time I just stirfry it with lots of garlic.
