1. Do you have a favorite book? If you cannot choose a favorite book of all time, pick your favorite book today – just this second. Remember that favorites are allowed to change if something affects you deeply enough.
One of my current favourite books is The Art of Charlie Chan Hock Chye by the amazing Sonny Liew. It is a graphic novel about a forgotten comic artist in Singapore, who started out in the years before Singapore’s independence. And it is very much a story of Singapore as it is of Charlie Chan. Also, the Singapore government grant for this book was pulled just before the launch because of so-called sensitive content. And so Singaporeans went out to buy it!
How do you arrange your bookshelves? Is there a rhyme or reason? Or not at all? (#ABEAShelfie)
Right now I’m just trying to place the books I haven’t read in more obvious locations around my bedroom, in the hope that I will actually read them!
What book are you most excited for on your TBR? What are you most intimidated by?
I recently bought Nnedi Okorafor’s Lagoon and can’t wait to read that. And am intimidated by the size of MFK Fisher’s The Art of Eating which my mother-in-law got me for Christmas last year.
What is the most interesting thing that you have learned through your reading this year so far?
Plenty of interesting things about dating today in this tech-driven world from Aziz Ansari’s Modern Romance. Like how more than half of 18 to 30-year-olds surveyed have dumped someone via text or social media!
